Single Issue Republicans

I don’t get single-issue voters. Why vote for a candidate who supports one good cause, but rejects nine others if there is a candidate who has nine good ones and one bad? Yet consistently, every Republican I talk to is a single-issue voter. The issue is always the same: Mid-East nation building. Every Republican I’ve known believes that to have a secure nation we must preempt Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, etc. I believe in national security, and I know most people do believe in preemptive strikes and nation building but I cannot understand why it is the ONLY issue that matters at all.

I wish I had a gold piece for everyone I’ve heard say “When he talks about the economy or the constitution, Ron Paul is a genius, but when he talks about foreign policy he’s an idiot; I agree with him 95%, but I can’t vote for him.” These people all excitedly talk about candidates who they admit are not even close to Paul in wisdom and intelligence on every other issue; they pick them over Paul because they support foreign wars. They throw the economy out with the war water. Why be a single-issue voter?

If you won’t support Ron Paul because of his foreign policy positions please let me know why by posting a comment to this article or at DavidScripturaRobinson@gmail.com or on twitter @DavidSRobinson1

Let me know what you think.

  1. What I think

Most of the candidates have nine good causes, and one bad one.

Paul just happens to have the worst of the bad ones.
